What is Alcohol & Drug Abuse

Alcohol abuse is a serious problem. It is a pattern of drinking too much alcohol too often. It interferes with your daily life. You may be suffering from alcohol abuse if you drink too much alcohol at one time or too often throughout the week. It also is a problem if you can’t stop drinking and it harms your relationships. It can cause you to be unable to function at work and in other areas of your life.

Drug abuse, is a patterned use of a drug in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods which are harmful to themselves or others, and is a form of substance-related disorder

Signs and Symptoms 
  • Neglecting personal/family responsibilities.

  • Declining academic or professional performance.

  • Depression.

  • Conflicts with loved ones.

  • Preoccupation with drinking and cravings.

  • Inability to control drinking.

  • Failing in attempts to stop drinking.

  • Needing increasing amounts of alcohol to feel its effects.

  • Getting drunk when it could be hazardous, such as before driving.

  • Going through withdrawal when not drinking

  • Bloodshot eyes, pupils larger or smaller than usual.

  • Changes in appetite or sleep patterns.

  • Deterioration of physical appearance, personal grooming habits.

  • Runny nose or sniffling.

  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain.

  • Tremors, slurred speech
